Benifit

Offshore photovoltaic is mainly divided into two categories: pile-based fixed type and floating type. At this stage, offshore photovoltaic is mainly of the pile-fixed type, and the construction of offshore floating power station is still in the process of going from 0 to 1. The so-called pile-fixed type is simply understood to mean that the PV ‘legs’ are deeply embedded in the sandstone layer below the sea level.
The photovoltaic industry is not an emerging industry, but offshore photovoltaics have just emerged. offshore photovoltaic have many benifit.

Environmental advantages

The water surface is open and unobstructed, and the sunlight is long and fully utilized, which can significantly increase power generation.

Wide area

Extensive water areas such as mudflats, intertidal zones, salt flats, etc.

Using steel pile boots

The photovoltaic panel modules above the sea level are shaped on land and then transported directly offshore for installation. Above sea level, wave heights are sometimes as high as 6.5 metres, and below sea level, the length of the post piles is nearly 30 metres. During the installation process, the modules first have to cross 9 metres of seawater, then 9 metres of thick silt layer, then 2 metres of chalk layer until they are inserted into the sandstone 23 metres below sea level. To do this, the R&D team employed 32-metre-long, 70-centimetre-diameter tubular piles, with steel pile boots at the bottom of the sandstone for added strength and durability, as well as additional rust and corrosion protection.

It's full of sensors.

The offshore PV modules are covered with sensors. With the help of Internet technology, all real-time data will be summarised and fed back to provide reference for decision-making. The technology-assisted offshore photovoltaic project has stood the test. From April to September this year, the project was hit by force 8 winds, but its monitoring data were normal. The first pile-fixed offshore PV project is inspiring.
Offshore photovoltaics have great potential for development, high comprehensive benefits, and are environmentally friendly. Developing offshore photovoltaics is not only an effective way to break through land constraints and expand the space for new energy development, but also a powerful tool for managing the ocean and cultivating strategic emerging industries.
